SelfSense Technologies was founded by a team of researchers from the Dublin Dental School and AMBER research centre in Trinity College Dublin.  The SmartSplint device is the companies first product and is the outcome of four years of collaborative research.  The project has received over €700,000 in grant funding from Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation of Ireland and the Health Research Board.  In 2015 company received €100,000 investment from the NDRC and completed its Venture Lab accelerator program.  

Our team of experienced clinicians,  engineers and commercial managers are have developed a device which will revolutionise the diagnosis and management of tooth grinding.   SmartSplint is currently being trialled in the Dublin Dental Hospital and in private practice in Ireland.  It will be launched in Ireland and the UK in early 2017 and the company is in the process of raising further investment to expand internationally.

CEO – John Lynch

John Lynch has over 25 years’ senior management experience in the International Life Science sector including substantial medical devices experience. He was CEO of Merrion Pharmaceuticals plc, raised significant investment (public/private >€20M), built the company infrastructure, developed innovative new products, completed large licensing agreements (>$100M) and IPO (IEM 2009). At Abbott Laboratories he held senior roles in international business development, sales and marketing and finance, and had P&L responsibility for a major business unit. He also had responsibility for international new product development and launch of medical devices.

CSO – Padraig McAuliffe

Padraig invented SmartSplint and has been the driving force and promoter since its inception.   As a specialist in advanced restorative dentistry (Prosthodontist) with 13 years’ experience in dental practice, he is intimately familiar with the issues facing dentists and patients. He has conducted key bruxism (tooth grinding) research in Montreal (#1 Bruxism research lab) and brings a network of international KOL’s who are highly influential in bruxism thought leadership.
